Dementia Friendly Cinema Screenings

With the Dementia Friendly Communities initiative taking off, it’s great to see local businesses getting involved.

Theatre Colwyn in Colwyn Bay are running Dementia Friendly screenings, in partnership with ‘A Life More Ordinary’ Project in Lancaster.

The screening is open to all who have memory problems, including dementia, as well as their family, friends and carers. This said, it is not open to the general public to ensure the relaxed atmosphere can be observed. This allows for people to move around and come or go as they please.

It is understood that having a break is another way to create a Dementia Friendly setting. The theatre has taken this onboard and have introduced an interval with live entertainment, provided by the Welsh National Opera. It is also supported by Canu Conwy, the Conwy County Borough Council staff choir.

It would be great to see other large organisations getting behind the initiative and be able to be in the position to offer something similar.
